White cement is an aesthetic, strong and durable cement. Because of its aesthetic appearance, it is especially preferred in areas such as decorative applications, repair and restoration. This article is a compilation that we have put together about where white cement gets its name, the raw materials it contains, how it is different from other cements, where it is used and the advantages of white cement.
What is White Cement? Where Does the Name Come From?
The different color of white cement comes from the purity of the raw materials and the manufacturing process. In general, production is similar to gray cement, but the purity of the raw materials it contains is different. The primary oxides found in the raw materials used in cement give cement its color, namely chrome, iron and nickel. These oxides, especially iron oxide (Fe2O3) are kept to a minimum during production, and this gives the cement its color. What’s more, the heat required for burning and the fineness is higher with white cement. White Portland cement is distinguished from gray Portland cement by its whiteness, fineness and different applications.
Where is White Cement Used?
White cement has been preferred for over 100 years in areas such as historical works, special decorative applications, repair and restoration.
The areas in which white cement is the preferred choice are:
- Construction chemical products
- Decorative plasters
- Exposed concrete
- Terazzo tile
- Pumice concrete
- Aerated concrete
- Pre-cast
Advantages of Using White Cement
The most important advantages of using white cement are that it is both aesthetic and strong. What’s more, cement floors, paving stones and other floor applications that use white cement are good at reflecting light. In these types of indoor spaces, they serve as a type of distinct artificial lighting. This property reduces energy costs such as lighting and heating in indoor spaces. Similarly, when it is used outdoors, it provides lighting that enhances security. The aesthetic appearance of white cement is one of the most important reasons that it is preferred. For this reason, it is chosen for structural applications such as buildings and floors,
- for pool plasters due to the decorative properties,
- for colored paving stones applications,
- for the manufacture of colored tile,
- for traffic barriers,
- and for plasters.

What is Çimsa Super White?
The Çimsa Mersin plant began producing white cement in 1990, offering it to both domestic and foreign markets for more than 20 years under the brand names Süper White Cement and Eco White Cement. In over 70 countries, Çimsa Super White has been preferred due to its reliable stability. At the Çimsa production plants, our focus is on stability.
Çimsa manufacturing processes are certified according to EN ISO 9001, EN ISO 18001 and EN ISO 14001 standards. During quality control processes, tests are conducted according to both EN and ASTM standards.
What are the Advantages of Çimsa Super White Cement?
Çimsa White Cements are preferred in several sectors due to their excellent whiteness, early high strength, low chrome IV content and low alkalinity. Variability in product parameters is minimized in each stage of the process from raw materials to delivery.
Aesthetics: a minimum whiteness value of 85% (Y value) ensures color stability in decorative products, making is possible to prepare flawless blends with color pigments.
Strong: It provides excellent durability performance thanks to the high level of C3S and C3A compounds that it contains. It’s early wet strength is particularly high, which accelerates production.
Durability: it is classified as a low-alkali cement because of its low alkaline content. It minimizes the risk of alkali-aggregate reaction ensuring long-term durability. Because it is ground fine, it imparts superior properties, such as low permeability and low water absorption in pre-cast products.

Why Should You Use White Cement?
The most important expectation users have with white cement is that the cement characteristics be as stable as possible. Whiteness is not the only thing that Çimsa Super White provides. It prevents variation in the final products due to its stability, durability, setting time and even distribution of grain size. It guarantees a minimum whiteness of 85%, which prevents discoloration in dry blends and pre-cast applications. Its unique characteristics create long-lasting value-added products. Furthermore, it speeds up production thanks to is high early strength.

The color of white cement is achieved due to the purity of the raw materials and the manufacturing process. White cement is preferred in applications such as pool plasters, colored paving stones or the manufacturing of colored tile. Due to its strength, it is also used in plasters and traffic barriers. Çimsa White Cements are distinctive due to their excellent whiteness, high early strength, low chrome IV content and low alkalinity.
Çimsa Super White lets you create distinction with aesthetic, strong and durable cement.
