Çimsa aims to take its works further with its sustainability approach which it integrated to all work processes  Taking the opinions of stakeholder platforms such as employees, customers, suppliers, public institutions, local people, nongovernmental organizations, professional associations, financial institutions, shareholders and academic institutions, Çimsa develops the subjects it will focus on by assessment of senior management.

Corporate governance and business ethic:

Corporate governance understanding at Çimsa is to be transparent and accountable in decision taking processes. Çimsa, as a publicly traded company, complies with the Corporate Governance Principles of the  Turkey's Capital Market Board. A corporate governance is exhibited within the scope of Committee Execution and Management Policy Procedure where managerial decisions related to strategical and critical operational issues are taken by means of committees established within the body of the company and which aims to define purpose, area of responsibility, participation and timing order within the frame of increasing effectiveness and efficiency.

Çimsa is a company that shapes its business making method within the frame of business ethic and which is loyal to these principles with all its employees. Regulations regarding codes of business ethic have been arranged under Sabancı Ethics (SAEthics) rules which were formed by the values and work principles built-up over years.  The codes of business ethic that Çimsa employees have to comply with are compiled under honesty, confidentiality, conflict of interest, and responsibility titles. Çimsa shows utmost sensibility to avoid violation of laws and regulations, hence corruption and noncompeting behaviors, and manages and follows these issues at the topmost managerial level.

Value created for the shareholder:

Among the primary targets of Çimsa are to make new investments as to add value also to the company's other prioritized targets in new and attractive markets where current operations may create a synergy, to grow in sustainable manner and to create value for the shareholders.

Dialogue with customers and suppliers:

Çimsa believes that a sustainable development can be achieved by working in harmony with its stakeholders and it sees communication and cooperation with its stakeholders as the keystone of its corporate culture and strategy, thus it is in a continuous communication also with its customers and suppliers as a company which is open to improve its dialogs with its stakeholders. Though for Çimsa, dialog and sharing with its customers is an economical sustainability subject, Çimsa is also aware of the fact that its sustainability targets can only be shaped and realized together with its customers incrementally in the future periods. Long-term business partnerships are aimed in the relations with suppliers whose products and services are used to provide basic inputs, in accordance with efficiency, mutual benefit and sustainability principles.

Occupational health and safety:

In the area of Occupational Health and Safety, Çimsa adopts an understanding that continuously follows corporate and legal standards in parallel to the policies and applications in the sector, determines proactive development fields and implements continuous follow-up systematics in OHS processes. Çimsa ensures internalizing of OHS and turning it into a corporate culture through applications such as notification of the main and sub-employer personnel, sharing procedural changes with the organization by effective communication both in occupational safety and also in occupational health, inclusion of OHS metrics in the company and employee targets, accepting auditing, near-miss notification, nonconformity number values as well as regular reporting.

Dialogue with stakeholders:

Considering that the most important subjects in Çimsa's  work processes and value chain are stakeholders, performing communication with the stakeholders by the most effective mechanisms is adopted as the corporate communication strategy of the company. At this point, applications such as periodic activities held with the stakeholders, arranging seminars and social activities, performing measuring through various questionnaires special to stakeholders and getting feedbacks from stakeholders by means of applications such as field visits, and implementations in accordance with enrichment of sharings are systematically carried out.

Contribution to local community and improvement:

Policies and implementations within the scope of contributing in the local communities (civil people) at Çimsa activity places socio-economically, notifications in miscellaneous subjects, setting forth potential improvement areas are in question. Thus, by measuring the effect of economic activities on the local community and getting feedbacks from the local community, it is important to ensure awareness towards the values created by the company through its work processes.

Tuning employees to sustainability approach:

Providing contribution to the sustainability process of the company more actively by the employees and inclusion of such parameters in the company and individual targets affect employees' internalizing and developing the sustainability concept. Raising the effect of actualized company activities on today and future to a higher awareness level within the scope of employees' work definitions and privacy will further increase its contribution to the sustainability of individual and society relations.

Decreasing CO2 emissions, other gas and dust emissions:

Çimsa is focused on the subjects of using alternative fuel which has significant contributions to decreasing carbon emissions in the sector and also allowing usage of sustainable sources, increase in cementitious materials, ensuring therm al and electrical energy efficiency.

Dust and gas emissions at Çimsa are reported by being periodically measured and controlled according to effective laws and regulations by our consultant firm accredited by the Ministry.Besides dust and gas emission measurement results, other parameters measured during alternative fuel and alternative raw material usage are also reported to the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization periodically.

The aim is to remain below the limit values given in the regulations for dust and gas emission concentrations and to show success in decreasing emissions every year.

Increasing  usage of alternative fuel and raw material usage:

Since cement sector is a sector with intense energy and raw materials, use of natural sources most
efficiently is most important for sustainable source usage. With this objective, Çimsa always pays importance to substitute primary non-renewable fuels and natural raw materials with their alternatives. Thus, while preserving the natural resources, a solution is also provided to disposal of wastes which is an important environmental and social problem.Adding alternative fuels and raw materials to the system safely and for the protection of the process efficiency, Çimsa speedily makes waste pre-treatment and feeding investments and increases alternative fuel usage rates every year. It cares the needs of its stakeholders in these studies and conducts to increase its dialog with them. With the awareness of its responsibility towards the environment and society, it seeks solutions for disposal of hazardous/non-hazardous industry and domestic solid wastes in the regions of its plants.

Increasing energy efficiency:

Extensive energy is used during cement production in the cement sector.Next to pressures forming due to climate in our world, energy sources gradually becoming insufficient and at the same time getting more expensive directs people to decrease primary energy usage and nstead to start using alternative energy sources. At the same time, decreasing of energy by the use of equipment that consumes less energy crushing, burning and grinding process optimization studies and energy recycling investments has gained big importance. With Çimsa's Electricity Generation from Waste Gasses Project established in Mersin 1st and 2nd plants, generation of 50% of power consumed in these two lines is aimed which brought a decrease in CO2 release. With its modern production processes that consume lower energy, Çimsa aims to minimize emissions arising from energy usage.

Product responsibility and safety:

To guarantee product reliability is one of the most important social commitments of Çimsa.  It follows up its short and long-term performance by using the technical corporate report in monthly technical committee meetings. In addition to production processes, responsibilities related to packaging and storing processes are also handled by quality management systems.

Çimsa's sustainability approach is to make a production complying with standards, highly reliable and aiming customer satisfaction as well as to give the customers and end users information about health, safety and environmental impacts of the products.

Sustainability approach and quality policy define the product responsibility performance targets. Following new technologies in accordance with the quality targets, providing quality input from reliable sources, increasing the competency of human resources by training, and ensuring continuous development and improvement by complying with the conditions of quality management system are the policies of the company.
